Blizzard Beach is one of the major water parks located at Walt Disney World Resort. This water park is located in a 66 acre land area which has an environment of a ski resort amidst a tropical lagoon. Blizzard Beach was developed when a freak winter storm deposited a lot of snow resulting in Florida's first ski resort. However the plan was short lived. As temperature started rising rapidly, ice and snow began to melt. Disappointed ski-resort operators were planning to close down, when they saw a playful alligator sliding down the "liquid ice" slopes and realized the melting snow can become the tallest, fastest and most exhilarating ski and toboggan runs in the world. The most noticeable attractions at Blizzard Beach are seen on the slopes of Mt. Gushmore. This beach is ranked number 3 on the Travel Channel's "Best Water Parks in America" in 2001. Blizzard Beach contains 21 slides, a huge pool and a separate area for pre-teens and children. Working hours differ throughout the year.
