I'm writing this, I suppose, as an expression of gratitude for a lot of good times and wonderful memories. We discovered the Rainbow back in 1989, and since then we have returned there ten times - June of 2005 being the most recent and, unfortunately, probably last. For years it was a home away from home for our family and for friends who occasionally went with us. During the 90's particularly, the place was absolutely immaculate and was beautifully landscaped and maintained; the location, atmosphere, and prices were simply outstanding. It was co-owned by two older couples who took great pride in the Rainbow and their service. We were always treated like family by them, and we never hesitated to refer people to our favorite vacation home. Sadly, time takes its toll on everything. Three of the folks who owned the Rainbow have passed away, leaving one lady who should have sold it when her husband passed. She had always been what I will call eccentric, but her sweetness and kindness always compensated for the stranger moments. However, when we last visited in 2005, having missed a couple of years, we were distressed to find that, in the absence of her husband and former partners, the lady was no longer the hostess she had once been, and the Rainbow was no longer the home we had grown to love. I was saddened but not surprised by the reviews I read here. I hope the Rainbow will eventually be restored to its award-winning (Superior Small Lodging) old self; but for now, I just felt that people should know that it was once a place where a young family could be made to feel at home, and where some of the sweetest memories of a lifetime could be made. |
