Gatorland is also known as the Alligator capital of the world. This 110 acre theme park and wildlife preserve is located in Central Florida. It was founded by Owen Godwin in 1949, and still privately owned by his family today. Gatorland features 3,000 gators and 89 crocodiles, as well as a number of bird and snake exhibits, reptilian shows boardwalk, nature walk, miniature Water Park, petting zoo, train ride, educational programs, gift shop and Lilly's pad-a children's splash zone and playground. In 2007, Gatorland opened the Gator Gully Splash Park and the theme park will open the world's largest collection of white alligators in February 2009.
