The Florida Highwaymen Artists are returning to Mount Dora for a Winter Event of the Arts featuring several events, including an opportunity to view and buy their original art on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Donnelly Building in Donnelly Park, located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Baker Street in downtown Mount Dora.
Featured Highwaymen Artists will include Mary Ann Carroll, Johnny Daniels, James Gibson, Issac Knight, Robert Lewis and Roy McLendon, each of whom was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2004.
The festivities begin with Mount Dora's quarterly Art Stroll on Friday, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. Many of the Highwaymen will be at the Chamber of Commerce's Gallery, located at 341 N. Alexander St., and wandering about the Stroll. A reception dinner for the artists will follow at Gables Restaurant, located at 322 N. Alexander St.
After the event on Saturday, Heron Cay Lakeview Bed & Breakfast, located at 495 W. Old Highway 441, will host a brunch, and art show and sale on Sunday, Jan. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. In addition, an exhibit of vintage Highwaymen art from private collector Geoff Cook will be on display and for sale at the Chamber of Commerce from Jan. 8-10.
"With today's economy, fine art is one of the best and safest investments that can be made, especially Highwaymen Art," Cook said. "These artists will not be here forever - they began painting in the late 1950s, early 1960s."
