Florida Murder Suspect Arrested in the Liberty County

Liberty County deputies have now arrested a man wanted in the Florida for murdering his ex-girlfriend in front of her own children. Monday night, they arrested Bobby Dressel at a convenience store on the Highway 84 off I-95 in Midway, Georgia.

Baker County, Florida, police had been looking for Dressel from Monday morning when they said he killed Cynthia Below and shot her father-in-law.

Orlando metro among top 10 cities for gay population

The Orlando metro area recently ranked in the top 10 cities in the country for gay, according to a recent study.

More than 80,000 people or 6 percent of the adult population in the Orlando-Kissimmee area is gay, a review conducted by the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at the UCLA School of Law revealed. Orlando ranks 9th in the study.

Orlando has now become increasingly progressive in the past few years, a actual draw for the gay society, said Chris Alexander, vice president of sales and marketing for Gay Days Inc.

U.S. government predicts low Florida orange harvest

Last year's Hurricane Wilma and a cold stretch this past February would leave Florida with its worst orange crop from past 1990, when the state saw freezes, which crippled production, the federal government said this Thursday.

The U.S. Department of the Agriculture predicted 135 million boxes of oranges would now be picked in the 2006-07 season, down from an already-lower than 148 million boxes last year. Before two nasty hurricane seasons blew through, the situation was standard about 220 million boxes of oranges, each of which weighs 90 pounds.

Florida's Diversity Celebrated

Governor Jeb Bush recognized a home teenager for her contributions in a great essay about Florida's Hispanic heritage.

As part of Florida's Hispanic Heritage Month, three students from across the state were recognized for their essays, which spelled out the diversity and contributions of the Hispanic community.

The Stanton student was awarded a four-year college tuition scholarship, plus a computer.

Florida leads nation in foreclosures

Florida is leading the nation in foreclosure event, according to a report by Bargain Network.

The report said that Florida has about 28,000 properties in some form of foreclosure, bookkeeping for about 27 percent of the nation's total. With one new foreclosure file for every 254 households, the state's foreclosure rate was more about four times the national average.

Foreclosure activity in this third quarter of 2006 rose by 14 percent compared to the second quarter of the year. It was 39 percent higher than the same period last year.

Group looks at hunting in Florida

A new organization has now been created to overturn the trend of declining hunters in the State of Florida. Called The Future of Hunting in Florida, the not-for-profit corporation was formed for the purposes of the recruiting, educating, and other retaining hunters, and to increase access and chance for persons to hunt on public and private lands in Florida.

Effingham shooting suspect killed in Florida

Florida authorities shot and killed a Savannah man wanted for a string of deadly crimes along the East Coast, as well as in a shooting and armed robbery in the Effingham County.

Florida officials fired him at William T. Ashby, 37, Monday night after a high-speed pursue outside St. Augustine, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Police began chasing the suspect Monday afternoon in the Flagler County, after deputies spotted a car matching his description of a suspect from Palm Beach.
