Just back from a week in Florida. Stayed two nights at Silver Sands and just loved it. Our family of four was in one of the cottages— charming, clean and tastefully furnished in a traditional, homey style although basic. Our children (pre-teen) loved the place: the wonderful beach (only a 3 min. walk from our doorstep), the tropical garden with its quiet pool, playground and mature Sea Grape trees that are easy to climb; all were appreciated. Free wireless internet by reception was a big plus as we had to rearrange travel at the last minute. We had a handy kitchenette and two TV’s with free cable. Apart from the vacant Sonesta hotel next door (condo conversion is imminent according to Silver Sands staff) the setting was gorgeous. The location is ideal if you want a quiet refuge, yet it's less than a 10 min. drive to Miami and all that it has to offer. However, if you want to be in the center of the party action or are looking for impeccable service and amenities such as those found at a swish 21st century hotel, you will be disappointed. Silver Sands is a retro tropical motel, a blast from the past, Florida as it was in the 60's and 70's. I hope this place can survive the pressure of the abundant upscale re-development on Key Biscayne. It's a gem.
